Lafayette College - a small liberal arts college with big time sports

Last Friday, my colleagues and I spent the morning touring Lafayette College in Easton, PA -- about a 3 - 3.5 hour drive from Montgomery County, MD.  Lafayette is a small liberal arts school of about 2,400 undergraduate students.  It is recognized for its strong Engineering department, which can be hard to find in a school this size.  In addition, Lafayette is 53% male and competes in NCAA Division I athletics -- two other aspects that make it stand out compared to other small liberal arts colleges.  A few other unique and interesting facts about Lafayette:

• Their big football game against rival Lehigh University will be played in Yankee stadium next year!
• 30% of Engineering students study abroad for a full semester (while remaining on track for graduation in 4 years).
  
• Lafayette offers two Early Decision dates, but no Early Action. Interviews are strongly recommended for all applicants. 
  
• Last year, 120 students were invited to a full day interview for the prestigious Marquis fellowship, worth $40k a year.  The fellowship was ultimately awarded to 28 students.  In addition, 13% of admitted students were offered a Marquis scholarship, worth $24k per year.
